A Tribute to all the Moms

Mom kissing baby's head With Mothers Day just around the corner, it’s time to give a shout out to all the moms out there! You hard-working ladies are the pillars that hold up the family and it’s time that you all get the recognition you deserve. So here is a tribute to all the moms out there!

A Tribute to all the Moms

Mom on a colorful background while embracing her kidsI want you to know you’re amazing

To all the moms out there, I want you to know how amazing you are. As a mother myself, I know how hard it can be. Between the drop-offs, little league practice and whatever else you’ve signed up for; I know you’re exhausted. And I know it doesn’t end there. You wake up to get your little one dressed and ready for school before you spend any time on yourself. If you’re lucky, you’ll comb your hair and brush your teeth before racing out the door. After that, you’re off to work or running errands and by the end of the day you’re ready to crash. But wait, there’s more! You’ve got supper to fix, homework to review and kids to get ready for bed. In my opinion, motherhood is one of the toughest jobs in the history of humanity. And you’ve got it on lock-down.

You’re a star (even though you don’t feel like it)

When my son was born, I cried. Even though I was happy that he was born healthy, I cried and cried like something terrible had happened. I felt real pain knowing that my birth plan had gone up in smoke and I ended up with an emergency c-section while under general anesthesia. I didn’t get to be there for my baby until a couple of hours later when I woke up. All I could think about was that I was not there when he entered this world and how already I had failed him. The only thing that pierced through those dark thoughts for me was when my father said “Erika, you’re his star”. Focusing on that reminded just how incredibly important my love and nurturing was to my baby and it pulled me out of a self-indulgent funk.
There’s no manual for motherhood and it’s easy to second-guess yourself. But know you’re doing a great job. You may be tired often, feel swallowed up by self-doubt and guilt, but know that you’re not alone. While we are unsure of ourselves as we enter into motherhood, the one thing that we are mutually sure of is the love for our children. As a mother, I love my son more than words can express. All I want to do is give him the world, as I’m confident you feel the same way as well.

Motherhood is a beautiful thing. There’s nothing like giving life to the tiny little human that you’ve carried for 9 months. Seeing your child’s face for the first time is a moment that will stay with you for life. You’ll find constant reminders of the life that you carried inside of you, and I know that you’re insecure. I was once as well. But those little imperfections are part of what makes you beautiful inside and out! And it’s not even about what you look like, it’s about the person that you have become. You have gone from perceiving yourself as an individual to holding space in the deepest places in your heart for each one of your children. THAT is love. THAT is beautiful.

As a mom, you sure love your babies, which most of the time means you’re also taking a million photos of them. I see how you’re always behind the camera snapping away but rarely stepping around to the other side to get in the photos with the kids. But it’s time for you to step into the spotlight and enjoy being photographed with those little ones that carved and sculpted you into the selfless, glorious, gorgeous mama you are today.
