Ocean Isle NC Family Photos | The T Family

These Ocean Isle NC family photos were especially fun! A commercial photographer from the west coast came all the way to our beautiful state for a big family gathering. Both his and his wife’s parents, siblings and their kids joined in the vacation. This gave us a grand total of 22 people, my largest family session to date!

Fortunately for us, the weather was beautiful, sunny and not too windy! The Carolina sunset was as beautiful as ever although I had to work quickly to get all of the family photos in before the sun went down. We got plenty photos of each individual family and of course a big group shot with everyone in it! Next, it was time to let everyone cut loose and have some fun. This is the best part of the sessions as everyone is encouraged to relax as I capture playful and more candid photos of the family. We wrapped up this fun shoot with all of the cousins racing along the water and then jumping in!

The best fall family sessions come with a well-coordinated color scheme! But it’s not as hard as it seems. You don’t have to be a stylist to get your family looking good for photos. Simply choose two colors or hues that you love and plan your outfits around them. Some popular fall color choices are reds and oranges, Tan and Ivory, or even navy and yellow! Feel free to get creative and make the most of your fall family session.

Layer it up!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons of the year. Cold weather means you get to bundle up and layers are the perfect way to stay warm and add some flair to your photo session! Don’t stop at a simple cardigan to keep you warm, add a stylish scarf to add some fun to your outfit. Guys can also add a nice sweater or jacket to their look for a cozy feel.

Don’t forget to accessorize!

Spice up your fall family session with accessories for the entire family! You can add special touches like burlap suspenders or a flowery headband for the kids. Add a lovely necklace for mom and a nice tie for dad to help add a pop of color to your photos. The possibilities are endless and the more creative you get, the more unique your family photos will be. Choose accessories that highlight your family’s personality!

Choose outfits that you are comfortable in

One of the most important things for any session is your family’s comfort. If you or your family is uncomfortable in the outfits they’re in, you can almost always tell in the photos. For this reason, I usually recommend using outfits you’ve worn before!

Sandy Surf City NC Family Photos | The L Family

A friend of mine recommended my services to this lovely little family of four! After deciding to move away from their home in NC, they asked me to capture some last minute memories before they left. The goal was to commemorate her family’s time in North Carolina with these Surf City NC family photos. Sometimes this location offers a bit of a challenge, as it’s generally a crowded destination. Although there were some people in the area, we made it work. I was able to make it look like they had the whole beach to themselves. To make the session even better, the weather was great! We had a beautiful afternoon to make this session perfect for a fun family session.

These Surf City NC family photos were a blast and the family was so much fun to work with! Despite the little ones initial shyness, we all enjoyed the session. The girls had a blast running, jumping and splashing in the water! They got super sandy and enjoyed some sweet family time before their move. With a playful vibe throughout the session, I was able to capture beautiful candid moments that really brought out the best of the family. although we let the little ones play along the beach (and get soaked and sandy), we still managed to snag some nice family shots as well! Thanks to a fun and memorable photo session, this family will have beautiful and genuine family memories to look back on in the future and as the girls continue to grow!

5 Tips for Taking a Great Back-to-School Photo

Where did the time go? I know I’m not the only one wondering this. Summer has flown by this year and we are already in August preparing to send our little ones back to school! And with that, comes the famous back-to-school photos to mark the start of a new school year. Whether it’s your child’s first year in school or one of many back-to-school days, take the time to capture the moment and get a great back-to-school photo of your child!

Check out these five tips for taking a great back-to-school photo this year!

Let your child choose the outfit

A fun way to embrace the beginning of a new school year is to allow your kids to choose their own outfit! This goes especially for the younger kids in your family. The results of this can be pretty funny and will give you something to laugh about with your children as they grow older and gain a more keen fashion sense.

Play with colors and accessories

Feel free to play with some fun colors and accessories to make your kids’ back-to-school photos pop! You can even add in some great props like a sign marking the grade level of your child. Make the scene more authentic by adding in school supplies like backpacks, books and pencils! (The adorable backpack pictured here is from Bixbee.)

As a mom, I really can’t stress this enough! If you haven’t made an effort in the past to get in the shot with your kids on the first day of school, now is a great time to start! You can even make it a tradition and hop in one or more photos with your kids every year. As they grow older, you’ll be thankful that you took the time to capture these moments!

Same Pose, Same Place

Using the same pose and the same location is a great idea for back-to-school photos! This will give you a consistent background every year to compare. You’ll be able to literally watch your kids grow from year-to-year!

Tell a story

Last, but not least, try to tell a story with your photos. If your kids are younger, they might let you take pictures from the moment they wake up and get ready, to them running to the bus stop! This is a great way to capture the full morning in action and to have the full experience to look back on.

With autumn upon us, it’s a great idea to start thinking about annual family photos! Contact me today to schedule your family session!
