Decorating With Photographs Is Affordable And Personal

I am convinced that there is nothing more beautiful or inspiring to hang on the wall of your home than a photo of someone you love. Decorating with photographs of your children sends them a message:

“I see you. I find beauty in your existence. I love the silly moments when you’re just having fun. I love the serious moments when you’re focused and determined. I am proud of who you are and want to share my pride with everyone who enters our home.”

However, decorating with photos is usually so expensive that you only want to invest the money in hanging up picture-perfect professional photographs.

Decorating With PhotographsDecorating With Photographs: A Personal Touch

I love the incredible canvas prints and beautifully mounted photos that are easily worth the investment for a lifetime of beauty preserved on display. However, I also love the idea of hanging up photos of your daily life, taken candidly as the mood strikes you. Proudly display your messy toddler in the high chair, the photos of a first lost tooth, and the time your kid cut their own hair. These photos don’t have to be painstakingly prepared to be displayed, and I recently learned of a fun, affordable way to print large paper posters of some of your favorite casual photos, perfect for hanging in a kids room.
This website offers 16×20 inch poster prints for just $3 and 18×24 inch poster prints for just $4. The shipping is a $10 flat rate, so the more photos you print the cheaper the shipping becomes per poster. The paper posters are matte only, not glossy, so these won’t be prints you want to spend money framing. They’re just fun, big posters you can hang up in your kids room and not worry if something happens to them, because they were an affordable design choice that let you share some of your favorite moments with the world, even if they aren’t technically perfect photographs.

Decorating With Photographs

I love sharing tips like this on my blog whenever I come across them, to help you celebrate your family in all its silly, messy, fun day-to-day glory. However, I also want to help you capture the professional family photos you will cherish for life. I think there’s room on your walls for both.

Hampstead NC Newborn Photography | Baby I

Newborn photo sessions are always so precious because I know how fleeting those first days are. One minute your baby is so new and tiny and the next they are exploring everything with a whirlwind of energy and noise. I feel so honored to get to witness a few of the early moments of these precious lives, and help their parents capture the memories before they quickly change. Take a look at this recent Hampstead NC newborn photography session with Baby I.

Baby I – Hampstead NC newborn photography

This sweet boy arrived 9 days prior to the shoot. He was awake and very aware, until I brought out my secret baby sleep machine – the space heater. He quickly got comfortable on my posing pillow with the warm air and white noise gently caressing him to sleep. This newborn session happened to be during the week, so only mom was home. Normally I like to get parents and any siblings involved in a few shots, but this boy was lucky to have mom all to himself.

3 Fun Spots for Toddlers Around Wilmington NC

Since moving to North Carolina last year, we’ve been hunting around for some fun spots to take our busy toddler to. Our house is baby-proofed, yet he still manages to get into things I don’t want him to so I like to take him out to local spots that are especially for kids like parks, play centers, and museums. Not only does he have a blast playing with all the fun toys and games he doesn’t have at home, but he also gets to socialize with other little people around his age and I get to meet other parents. It’s a win-win! Now that we are more settled in, I thought I’d share our favorite 3 fun spots for toddlers around Wilmington NC.

In no particular order, here are 3 fun spots for toddlers around Wilmington NC.

Fun Spot #1 – Hullabaloo – Hampstead, NC

Hullabaloo 1 of 3 fun spots for toddlers around Wilmington NCWe are here a lot! What is there NOT to do at Hullabaloo? There are play kitchens stocked with toy food and dishes for those little ones who are learning to cook, a grocery store complete with a cash register, conveyor belt and shopping carts, a large play pen for babies learning to walk, two train set tables, a car wash, garage workshop, play nursery, doctor’s office, gas station, plenty of room for the kiddos to run free and so much more! Plus, they offer Spanish lessons, a Pre-School program, Drop-In Childcare, Yoga for Adults and many other events and activities for families to enjoy. The special thing about this place is it’s like walking into Cheers, where everybody knows your name and your kids name. It’s made up of regulars who go to simply hang out and socialize – adults and kids, alike. It’s more than just a kid play center. It’s the local hangout! Check them out online at www.hullabalooplay.com

Fun Spot #2 – Port City Gymnastics – Wilmington, NC

Port City Gymnastics 2 of 3 fun spots for toddlers around Wilmington NC

We recently found this fun spot, and so glad we did! I’ve taken my son to PCG only a handful of times and afterwards I always wonder why I don’t take him more often because he naps like a champ after every visit here! We’ve only been for the Preschool Open Gym: Tues, Wed & Thurs from 9:00am – 11:30am, but there are many other programs to explore. The place is a heaven for kids that can’t sit still! It’s basically a huge space full of gymnastics equipment like bars to hang from, balance beams, different shaped mats to roll down and jump off of, trampolines, nets to climb, a slide, hula-hoops and more! Seriously, do want your kid to burn off all their crazy energy? Take them here for the open gym. Plus, the huge trampoline is fun for adults big kids too. 🙂 Check them out online at www.portcitygymnastics.net

Fun spot #3 – Marbles Kids Museum – Raleigh, NC

Marbles Kids Museum 3 of 3 fun spots for toddlers around Wilmington NC

I titled this post “3 Fun Spots for Toddlers Around Wilmington NC” because of this place, which isn’t exactly local. It’s in Raleigh which is a couple of hours away from Wilmington. However, it’s a great place to take kids if you’re on a day or weekend trip to Raleigh. The name is a little misleading since it’s less like a traditional museum where you’re not allowed to touch anything, and more like a play center where you’re encouraged to play with everything! It’s a huge two-story building that is split up into exhibits based on different themes. The Around Town exhibit basically brings the world down to kid size with a little farm, grocery store, kitchen, hospital, ambulance, news helicopter, fire engine, vet hospital and more. Another fun exhibit is Splash, where kids can have hands-on play and experiments with water. They do provide plastic smock aprons to help keep the kids dry, but I suggest also bringing a change of clothes just in case (for sure!) they really go crazy with the splashing. Toddlers Hollow was a great one for us. It’s made especially for kids under 3 and provides a place where they can practice crawling, walking and balancing all in the setting of a woodland adventure. There is so much more to this place and most definitely one to check out if you’re in the mood for a trip to Raleigh. Check them out online at www.marbleskidsmuseum.org

The K Family | Wilmington NC Photographer

This family session was the second consecutive session I shot at Greenfield Park. A couple of weeks between the first and second session made a huge difference in the location’s appearance. I was thrilled to have a background that was just as beautiful as the first time around, only this time filled with spring flowers! The pink flowers lining the perimeter of the lake matched perfectly with little Miss M’s outfit and hair band. The four of us enjoyed a nice stroll around the lake as we stopped to take pictures along the way. Miss M had a lot to say at one point. I imagine it was something along the lines of “Wow, look at all the pretty colors! Mom and Dad love me so much! I love all this attention! Life is good.”

7 Tips for making toddler’s haircut fun and easy

7 Tips for making toddler’s haircut fun and easy

I didn’t even think of getting my son’s hair cut when his hair started getting in his eyes and the side curls over his ears started to look like wings. I thought it was adorable. But I knew it was time when people kept saying “what’s her name?” or “what a beautiful little girl!” There is no specific age at which the first haircut happens. Babies as young as 2 months make their first visit to the salon and some don’t until they’re 2 years. You’ll know when it’s time. And when you do, here are 7 tips for making toddler’s haircut fun and easy!

  1. Prepare (yourself) and your child. This is a totally new experience for them, so be prepared for tears!  It can help to bring your child to your own haircut appointment so they can see what to expect. Or, you can play “haircut” at home by sitting them in front of a mirror and pinning a towel around their shoulders. Gently spritz warm water on their hair and “trim” with toy scissors or even using your hands as the scissors. Try letting them give you a “cut” too.
  2. Take them to a salon that specializes in children’s haircuts. They should be equipped with all sorts of fun things to keep your child happily distracted – toys, kids movies/shows, a fun atmosphere, and most importantly, stylists that specialize in working with children. Also, be sure to pick a time that is good for your child.
  3. Relax! If you are overly emotional or nervous, your child will pick up on it.
  4. Have your child sit on your lap. Sometimes, no matter how many bells and whistles are around to distract your child, they may still want nothing to do with the event. But if you join in, they may have an easier time obliging. Try wearing a cape too! A little extra comfort may be all they need.
  5. Use fun nicknames for the equipment. Blowdryers and hair clippers can be noisy, and scary! Using funny names like “Mr. Buzz” for the clippers and “wind machine” for the blowdryer can help them be less afraid.
  6. Bring a snack. Non-sticky food works best like puffs or crackers or carrot sticks. It can make all the difference between squirming and contently sitting.
  7. Focus on the experience, and not the perfect haircut. My son could have had a cleaner first haircut, but I knew he would freak out at the hair clippers, so we chose to save that for the next time. It’s best to keep the experience all-around positive.

These tips can work well for haircuts beyond the first too! I hope you find these helpful and your child has a great haircut experience next time!

As we continue our existence on this planet, I firmly believe that our passions and sense of purpose become increasingly distinct. While some individuals discover it early on, for most of us, it is a convoluted path with clarity only arriving after various twists and turns in our journey. Now, at the youthful age of 46, I have finally glimpsed what truly brings me satisfaction and delight - supporting women.

To me, supporting women entails presenting mothers with the photographs I capture of them alongside their families, instantly reminding them of their beauty as nurturing figures and their astonishing presence as the centerpiece of their families.

It also involves empowering women to shed all self-doubt and embody the strong yet tender qualities they bring to the world through their professional endeavors. It has become evident to me that by showcasing women in my portraits as their authentic, stunning selves, they possess the ability to conquer any obstacle. Women are creators - we possess the ability to evoke beauty simply through the touch of our loving awareness.

My passion lies in supporting women on their journey towards embracing this belief in themselves. 💖

Look at this beautiful little lady! I have been photographing this little girl and her family for years and it's such an honor to get to capture families as they grow. From being invited into my clients' homes to capture their tender moments with their newborn babies or special holiday photos around their Christmas trees, it is never something I take lightly. I feel trusted, valued and I thank my lucky stars for this beautiful work that I do and the amazing clients I get to serve.
The birth of my brother's first child has prompted me to reminisce about the precious moments when my own children were newly born. Their delightful fragrance, petite and squishy features, and undeniable cuteness overwhelmed me. Despite my exhaustion and the countless tasks that demanded my attention, I found it impossible to sleep when they did. Instead, I would observe their every movement, cherishing each second of that extraordinary period. I made a conscious effort to etch every detail into my memory. And now, as I reflect upon those times, it feels as though they occurred just yesterday, despite my sons now being 5 and 9 years old. Having children truly transports one into a time-warp, with time appearing to both slow down and pass by in an instant, leaving you astonished by their rapid growth.
I have discovered a clear passion within me not only for crafting genuine portraits that capture the true essence of the subject in the present moment, but also for using this skill to uplift women. My focus is specifically on the fearless women who are embarking on their own entrepreneurial journeys.

In light of this, I am pleased to announce the addition of new services to my professional photography portfolio! One of these offerings is personalized branding photography catered to women-owned small businesses.

Your brand serves as a reflection of your vision, values, and dedication. Let's encapsulate the essence of your business journey through bespoke branding photography that speaks volumes, right here in Wilmington, NC! 🌟📷

If you share a passion for supporting women-owned businesses, please feel free to reach out to me via direct message. I am eager to have a conversation, collaborate, and potentially work together in some capacity!

I firmly believe that by supporting and empowering women, we actively contribute to the healing, growth, and evolution of our world.
This family is just too sweet! You know what they say: three is a party, and these three kiddos definitely made this session feel like one.
I love the energy that sibling dynamics bring to a session. They are the best kind of ornery, and it makes for some adorable shots and even better smiles.
